eGovWatch: PM Narendra Modi pitches for mobile governance

Pitching for his ambitious Digital India Programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the nation needs to move towards mobile governance, which would not only ensure transparency but also bring accountability.

“We are giving importance to Digital India and want to move towards mobile governance, by which good governance will come naturally and there will be transparency and accountability,” he said.

Addressing a rally in Bangalore on the first day of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national executive meeting, he said that these days there are more cell phones than there are people, so there is future for mobile governance, eGovernance & Digital India.

Modi also said that Digital India would increase oppurtunities for jobs in the IT sector and the country will have strong economy.

“This is our effort to bring about next generation revolution,” he added.

He also said that technology is needed to empower farmers. “I know that India will not make progress till villages develop and till farmers make progress. They need technology for farming, infrastructure, good roads, need electricity,”
