eGovWatch: Prasar Bharati banks on mobile apps for wider dissemination content

With the aim to reach millions of smart phone users in the country, public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati is looking at mobile apps of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan for wider dissemination of their content.

While AIR has already launched its mobile app, Doordarshan news is set to follow the suit. Though AIR app is now available for only Android users and it will soon be there for Windows, iOS and other platforms.

Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Secretary Bimal Julka said the mobile app of DD News will be launched at an event on May 7.

Meanwhile, AIR officials said with the launch of the mobile app, its content will reach the Indian Diaspora in different countries.

“We are pleased to share that very soon AIR Live mobile app will be available for other platforms also. Our IT team is continuously at work and we hope to get connected through all mobile platforms shortly,” AIR DG Fayyaz Sheheryar said in a statement.

All India Radio has also started live streaming of many of its popular and regional channels that can be accessed by visiting AIR’s website, the statement said.
