Taxation plays a vital role in the development of a nation. As does the planning, practice and efficiencies of its collection. It is here that government departments, officers and a modern day IT network play a crucial role.

With the Government of India ready to roll-out Good & Service Taxes (GST) on July 1, 2017, the scope of collaboration, use of technology and expectation of improvement in transparency has increased like never before.

Uttar Pradesh is preparing to take the lead in GST implementation. The state government has set in place technology, processes and people to ensure a smooth transition. The Commercial Tax Department of Uttar Pradesh which is the highest revenue-earning department (Rs 47,690 crores in 2015-2016) comprises 60% of the state’s revenue, and is on the path to digital transformation with the investment of about Rs 300 crore on technology.

While GST is expected to transform the nation, there are numerous challenges as government enterprises try to resolve the complexities in calculating GST. Government departments will have to move to an upgraded system where every entry will have a correlation and will be matched in realtime to avoid discrepancies.

In this context, Express Computer, an IT business magazine from the Indian Express Group, has partnered with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, to organize the ‘GST Sabha’ in Lucknow. The objective of the Summit is to facilitate and encourage a 360 degree view of GST, and understand how enterprises can quickly and efficiently migrate to the GST platform.

The summit aims to provide a platform for knowledge exchange on Technology, GST and Taxes in Uttar Pradesh, and would bring together representatives from different sections of the Government, commercial tax experts, technology experts in addition to members from the academia, industry, and industry associations.
