Amazon bets on home services provider Housejoy

The company provides on-demand professionals such as electricians, plumbers & carpenters. It fulfills 4,000 orders a day across 11 cities

Home-services provider Housejoy has raised Rs 150 crore in its Series B round led by Amazon, with participation from Vertex Ventures, Qualcomm, Ru-Net Technology Partners and Matrix Partners.

The company that aims to be present in more than 10 cities will spend the new funds to build enhanced technology, acquisitions, partnerships and increase team size.

“Housejoy seeks to provide customers with a differentiated experience in shopping for home services. This aligns with our mission in India – to transform the way India buys and sells. We are excited to back the Housejoy team that shares our obsession for inventing on behalf of customers with a long term focus” said Amit Agarwal, vice president and country manager, Amazon India.

Launched in January this year, the company provides on-demand professionals such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc for home-services. It claims to fulfill 4,000 orders a day across 11 cities it is present in.

Until now the company has partnered with 10,000 service providers which it wants to escalate to 50,000 with this recent investment. Earlier this year in June the company had raised $4 million from Matrix Partners.

“This is a significant milestone for Housejoy in its journey to become the most trusted home services brand in India. This round is a great validation of our growth, team strength and ability to execute in these short nine months. We will be able to build our team aggressively and are open to partner with companies in the ecosystem to deliver customer delight,” said Saran Chatterjee, CEO, Housejoy.
