Amazon Web Services India Private Limited (AWS India) has announced a collaboration with Yotta Data Services to deploy AWS Outposts for the National Informatics Centre’s (NIC) Meghraj 2.0 initiative, enabling government departments to leverage advanced cloud and generative AI capabilities while meeting strict data residency and security requirements.
The deployment introduces a hybrid cloud architecture that allows sensitive government workloads to remain within NIC data centres while accessing AWS services such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). Built on the AWS Nitro System, the solution integrates advanced security features with AWS-managed services to support public sector modernisation.
Hybrid Cloud for Secure Government Workloads
Through AWS Outposts, applications hosted within NIC facilities can scale to the AWS India Region during peak demand periods, supporting citizen-facing services and large-scale data processing. Data is synchronised back to NIC environments within hours, enabling elastic scalability while maintaining on-premises control.
The architecture also incorporates AWS Control Tower to enforce standardised security guardrails, helping government departments establish consistent security baselines and reduce risks associated with manual configurations.
Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia, said the initiative reflects AWS’s continued focus on supporting the Government of India’s digital transformation agenda by enabling advanced cloud and generative AI adoption within compliant infrastructure environments.
Sunil Gupta, co-founder, managing director and CEO of Yotta Data Services, added that the collaboration combines Yotta’s sovereign cloud and data centre capabilities with AWS’s cloud and AI technologies to deliver a secure hybrid platform tailored for India’s public sector. He noted that the approach will help government organisations scale services, accelerate innovation, and maintain data residency within trusted infrastructure.
Driving Meghraj 2.0 Modernisation
The Meghraj 2.0 initiative aims to modernise government cloud infrastructure while ensuring compliance with national data sovereignty frameworks. By integrating AWS Outposts into NIC environments, the collaboration enables departments to adopt advanced analytics, automation, and generative AI use cases without compromising security or regulatory mandates.
