Consumer durables maker Bajaj Electricals has partnered with technology major Cisco to jointly bid and participate in the Indian government’s project to build smart cities.
The two partners are likely to finalise by March their go-to-market (GTM) plans, which includes development of products, their promotion and approaching customers for the same.
“Cisco would do the software applications and networking aspects such as routers and wireless applications while we will be in active services and fittings of radio frequency, video display, cameras and street lighting,” Bajaj Electricals President – Lighting Business Group Sundararajan R told PTI.
He said the partners were still working on GTM plans after signing agreements with Cisco in last month.
Asked how the two partners would bid for out of the 100 smart cities that the government was planning to develop, Bajaj Electricals Joint Managing Director Anant Bajaj: “Every smart city where Cisco would be involved, we are going to be a default partner with them.”
Bajaj Electricals has jumped in light-emitting diode (LED) race with other manufacturer as Philips, Havells, Surya, Orient etc. Last week, it unveiled a new campaign along with a logo for it.
The Narendra Modi government had announced it will develop 100 smart cities, which requires smart lighting solutions, among others.
The concept of ‘smart cities’ as satellite towns of larger ones was enunciated in budget last year by the government which has allocated Rs 7,060 crore for the ambitious plan.
