Beyond dashboards: Why TVS Next is betting on “Manufacturing Intelligence Orchestration”

Walk into almost any large Indian factory today and you’ll find no shortage of technology. ERP systems track orders and inventory. MES platforms manage shop-floor execution. IoT sensors stream machine data. Quality and maintenance teams run their own point solutions. On paper, manufacturing has never been more instrumented.

Yet ask a plant head why a line went down, or why a batch failed quality checks, and the answer often still takes hours to assemble — pulled together manually from three or four disconnected systems that were never designed to talk to each other. The investment in digital infrastructure has outpaced the ability to turn that infrastructure into decisions.

This is the gap that TVS Next, the venture-building and innovation arm of the TVS Group, has set out to close with NexOps — a platform it calls a “Manufacturing Intelligence Orchestration Solution.” It’s a deliberately unconventional label, and that’s the point.

The problem hiding behind the dashboards
For Vinod Krishnan, MD & CEO of TVS Next, the pattern became obvious only after repeated exposure across manufacturers globally — not from a single client engagement, but from seeing the same failure mode recur everywhere.

“As we worked with manufacturers globally, we saw the same challenge repeatedly,” Krishnan says. “Plants had invested in ERP, MES, IoT, and other digital systems, yet decisions were still fragmented because operational data and knowledge remained siloed.”

TVS Next initially treated this as a consulting problem, solving it engagement by engagement. But the recurrence itself was the signal. “We realized the underlying problem was common across manufacturers,” he says. “Instead of solving it differently every time, we built NexOps — a manufacturing intelligence layer that connects existing systems, contextualizes data, and brings AI-driven decision-making into day-to-day operations.”

That shift — from bespoke consulting to a repeatable platform — reflects a broader philosophy Krishnan says guides TVS Next’s venture-building approach: turning proven transformation expertise into scalable products rather than one-off delivery.

More data was never the answer
Ask Krishnan to state the problem NexOps solves for Indian manufacturers in a single line, and he’s unambiguous: the industry doesn’t have a data shortage.

“Manufacturers today don’t need more data — they need better decisions,” he says. “Despite investments in automation and digital technologies, many factories still operate with disconnected systems and delayed visibility. This makes it difficult to respond quickly to production issues, quality deviations, or maintenance events.”

The intent behind NexOps, he explains, is to connect machines, people, and enterprise systems into a single intelligence layer — one built not to replace what manufacturers already run, but to sit across it. “The outcome is higher productivity, improved operational resilience, and smarter manufacturing.”

Not another point solution — an orchestration layer
It would have been easier, from a positioning standpoint, for TVS Next to call NexOps an MES upgrade, a data platform, or an AI analytics tool. Krishnan is explicit about why none of those labels fit.
“Existing technologies solve individual problems,” he says. “MES manages execution, data platforms organize information, and AI generates insights. NexOps sits above them as an intelligence layer that connects systems, data, AI, and human expertise. It continuously interprets operational signals, recommends actions, and increasingly automates routine decisions.”

He calls this category “Manufacturing Intelligence Orchestration” — a deliberate choice to describe an operating model rather than another application competing for shelf space on the factory floor. In practice, the platform’s capabilities span predictive maintenance, AI-driven quality monitoring, production planning, real-time operational visibility, energy analytics, manufacturing copilots, and executive dashboards — the goal being to move manufacturers from reactive firefighting to intelligent, data-driven operations.

TVS Group’s factory floors as the proving ground
TVS Next’s advantage isn’t just technical architecture — it’s provenance. The TVS Group’s own manufacturing operations gave the team an unusually direct line of sight into what actually breaks down on a shop floor, long before NexOps was pitched to a single external customer.
“Our manufacturing heritage strongly influenced how we designed NexOps,” Krishnan says. “Being part of the wider TVS ecosystem gave us firsthand insight into the realities of factory operations and the importance of solving practical business challenges.”

Crucially, though, he’s careful to frame NexOps as more than an internal tool retrofitted for sale. “NexOps was built from the outset as an enterprise platform for manufacturers across industries,” he says. “It combines manufacturing expertise with our experience delivering digital transformation for customers globally, making it applicable well beyond the TVS ecosystem.” That combination — real factory scar tissue plus platform-first engineering — is what TVS Next positions as its differentiator against both legacy automation vendors and newer AI-only entrants.

AI as a shop-floor colleague, not a bolt-on feature
AI is everywhere in enterprise software marketing today, and manufacturing is no exception. Krishnan’s framing is narrower and more operational than most.

“We see AI as an operational capability, not just a technology,” he says. “Within NexOps, AI predicts equipment failures, identifies quality issues, optimizes production schedules, and enables natural-language interaction with manufacturing data through AI copilots.”

The payoff, in his telling, is measured in the metrics that matter to plant operators: reduced downtime, improved overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), optimized maintenance, and faster decisions on the floor. “AI becomes a trusted partner that augments human expertise on the shop floor,” he says — a framing that positions AI as an amplifier of operator judgment rather than a replacement for it.

The three-year bet: an open intelligence layer, not a closed platform
Where does this go from here? Krishnan’s answer signals ambition beyond a single product line.
“Our vision is for NexOps to become the intelligence layer for Modern Manufacturing,” he says. “We see it evolving as an open platform that integrates with existing operational technologies while allowing partners and customers to build industry-specific capabilities on top of it.”

It’s a bet that manufacturers won’t want to rip out their ERP and MES investments — they’ll want something that makes those investments finally talk to each other. “The future isn’t about replacing existing systems — it’s about connecting them through intelligence,” Krishnan says. “That’s the ecosystem we’re building toward.”

For CIOs and plant leaders wrestling with a factory floor full of expensive, disconnected systems, that’s an argument worth listening to: the next competitive advantage in manufacturing may not come from buying one more piece of technology, but from finally getting the pieces already on the floor to reason together.
