Claude goes live in India with in-country inference through Amazon Bedrock

Financial institutions, government bodies and large enterprises in India can now use Claude with requests processed in the country
Anthropic today announced that Claude models — including Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5 — are now live with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock. Requests sent to Claude through the India endpoint are now processed within India, giving regulated Indian institutions the data residency assurances they need to deploy Claude at scale across their most sensitive workloads.

India is one of the largest markets for Claude globally and home to one of the most technically sophisticated developer communities Anthropic serves. A recurring request from Indian organizations has been the ability to run inference locally — a requirement that is often an imperative for financial institutions, government bodies and large enterprises operating under strict regulatory and data-handling standards. That capability is now available.

“In August, we committed to bringing Claude inference to India, and we are delivering on that promise. Our customers, especially in regulated sectors and government, want to use Claude on their most critical work, with requests processed in the country. From today, they can,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director, India, Anthropic. “This is a long-term commitment. We will keep growing our team in India and investing in local partnerships.”

Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia, said: “Responsible AI adoption at scale has become a strategic imperative for some of India’s most regulated industries. For them, data residency is the parameter that decides whether AI stays confined to pilots or reaches full production. With in-country inference for Claude now available through Amazon Bedrock, requests are processed on servers based in India, enabling banks, insurers, and public institutions to trust and deploy AI at a production scale.”

Claude deployments through Amazon Bedrock in India come with the audit trails and access controls that risk and compliance teams require before deploying AI in production environments.

Early customers including Reliance, CRED, and others tested in private preview. Customers across industries welcomed the launch. Some pointed to the lower latency, performance, resilience and others to the regulatory alignment of running Claude locally and the need to keep data within Indian borders.
Here is what customers across industries had to say.

“As Anthropic’s customer and partner in India, we are pleased with this announcement. Local inference gives us the performance, resilience and regulatory alignment we need to move Claude into production areas across the Reliance ecosystem.”—Reliance Industries.

“As Anthropic’s Global Premier Partner, with one of the world’s largest pools of Claude certified talent, we see growing demand for enterprise-grade AI deployments in regulated industries. Anthropic’s in-country inference capability in India is an important step in meeting evolving data residency and governance requirements. Together, we are helping enterprises accelerate their journey.” – Amit Kapur, Chief AI & Services Transformation Officer, TCS.

“In-country inference widens the options available to Indian banks. At Kotak, we built a single AI platform with governance designed in from the start, which lets us adopt new capabilities like this responsibly and at pace.” – Vijay Narayanan, Head of Innovation & AI, Kotak Bank.

“As a customer and partner of Anthropic, Mahindra group welcomes the launch of Claude inference in India. With the DPDP Act making data sovereignty a business imperative, keeping our data and AI workloads within Indian borders lets us scale Claude across the Group with confidence.”—Mohit Kapoor, Chief Technology Officer, Mahindra Group.

“Trust is foundational to every experience we build at CRED, and that increasingly includes the AI infrastructure. Having Claude inference available in India allows us to combine strong performance with the data governance and regulatory expectations of the Indian financial ecosystem. ” – Swamy Seetharaman, Head AI Strategy at CRED.

“NPCI is building AiNxt, its agentic AI platform, with Claude – bringing secure, governed AI to enterprise scale.” Sampath Kumar Rangasamy, Chief Online & New Products Development, NPCI.

“Agents powered by Claude Opus are helping probe codebases, systems, and infrastructure and reviewing them for vulnerabilities. An Opus powered agent serves as a reviewer of the sandbox, doing extensive work on the agent flow, logic, and security so the agents stay aligned and within their intended scope,” said Vinayak Godse, CEO, Data Security Council of India.

“India-based inference gives Godrej Industries the regulatory alignment, performance and resilience to move Claude into production workflows with confidence — and reflects the kind of long-term commitment to India we look for in our technology partners,” said Satyavrat Mishra, Head, Corporate IT and Group CISO, Godrej Industries Ltd.

“Freshworks runs Claude Code across its engineering organization, compressing routine build and review work so teams ship code faster,”said Sreedhar Gade, VP Engineering.

“At Swiggy, we’re focused on applying AI to solve complex engineering problems, not just automate routine tasks. Claude is one of the few AI tools we’ve seen influence how our engineering teams approach problem-solving, helping them move faster while maintaining the quality that’s essential at scale.” – Madhusudhan Rao, CTO, Swiggy Ltd.

“We serve creators in 190 countries. At that scale the difference between a good model and a dependable model impacts the whole product. Claude gave us consistency in output quality across languages and formats, and Anthropic’s team has treated our constraints as their problem rather than ours,” said Sanket Shah, Co-founder & CEO, Invideo.

Continuing India Momentum
Anthropic opened its Bengaluru office in February, and the India team has grown steadily since, bringing applied AI expertise to enterprises, digital natives, and the partner ecosystem. When the Claude Partner Network launched in March, India had some of the highest registration numbers anywhere, and Indian firms now sit in its Global Premier, Preferred, and Select tiers. In August, Anthropic held its first Claude Certification for Partners in Bengaluru, certifying up to 5,000 people.

Claude is in use across Indian industry, at some of the country’s largest institutions. In banking and payments, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and NPCI use Claude for engineering and employee productivity, and NPCI is building its agentic AI platform on Claude. In IT services, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTM and LTTS are building Claude into client delivery worldwide.

TCS is rolling out Claude to 50,000 associates, and Infosys has set up a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence. Reliance, Mahindra & Mahindra and Godrej Industries are deploying Claude across their groups. Digital natives such as CRED, Razorpay, Swiggy, Zomato, Invideo, Freshworks and Emergent build Claude into their products and engineering, and startups such as Rocket and Atlan use it to help teams launch apps and govern data in natural language.
