Kotak Life is partnering with DEPT to move its customer-facing digital assets to a cloud-native, headless architecture, while using agentic development to accelerate content migration and code development.
Life insurance is entering a phase where the digital customer experience is becoming increasingly personalised, and insurers are looking beyond incremental improvements to rethink the technology foundations that support customer engagement.
Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Limited (Kotak Life) is taking that approach with a strategic partnership with global growth invention company DEPT. The partnership is aimed at building a next-generation, AI-powered digital platform ecosystem designed to strengthen agility, intelligence and scale across Kotak Life’s digital engagement platforms. At the centre of the initiative is a transition of Kotak Life’s customer-facing digital assets to a cloud-native, headless architecture powered by Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Cloud Services.
From digital channels to a digital backbone
For insurers, the technology architecture supporting customer-facing platforms increasingly needs to accommodate changing customer expectations, faster content delivery and the adoption of AI across business processes. Kotak Life says its transformation is being driven by the objective of making the life insurance experience more personalised for customers.
Sourabh Chatterjee, Chief Technology Digital Transformation Officer, Kotak Life said: “At Kotak Life, our customers are at the forefront of all our technology initiatives. In the era of AI, there will be a paradigm shift in CX becoming more and more personalised and brands need to build and scale platforms to deliver this seamlessly for all their customers. Transitioning our customer facing assets to a cloud-native, headless architecture along with NLP powered interfaces aligns with our vision of enabling AI across our life insurance value chain. We have partnered with DEPT on this journey. In DEPT, we found a partner who understands that this is a critical component of our broader business transformation. Through this partnership with DEPT, Kotak Life will transition to a cloud-native, headless architecture powered by Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Cloud Services.”
The architecture shift is positioned as part of Kotak Life’s broader business transformation rather than as a standalone technology modernisation exercise. The company says the move will support its vision of enabling AI across the life insurance value chain.
Agentic development enters the transformation
A notable element of the partnership is the use of an Agentic Development approach to accelerate content migration and code development.
According to Kotak Life, the methodology aligns with its internal vision of deploying AI agents to optimise platforms and processes. The approach also aligns with DEPT’s proprietary Agentic Development Platform roadmap, creating an opportunity for the two organisations to co-innovate around development efficiency.
The significance of this approach lies in connecting the technology architecture transformation with the way the platform itself is developed and maintained. Rather than treating AI as an additional capability layered onto an existing digital environment, the partnership is intended to incorporate agentic development into the transformation process.
The project is also tied to a specific business objective: accelerating direct customer acquisition through an optimised user experience.
Kotak Life and DEPT say the project will focus on driving measurable business growth while maintaining digital inclusivity through WCAG 2.1 compliance. This puts customer experience, business growth and accessibility alongside the underlying technology transformation.
Himanshu Mody, Head of India, DEPT said: “Our deep relationship with leading BFSI brands and a proven track record of successful go-lives reflects the enterprise expertise we bring to digital transformation. We are thrilled to partner with Kotak Life to architect a cloud-native, headless ‘digital backbone’ that provides the scalability to innovate faster and scale at pace. By blending our Agentic Development capabilities with Kotak Life’s forward-thinking AI vision, we are not just accelerating code and content delivery but setting a new benchmark for tech-driven agility in insurance.”
What the transformation signals for insurance technology
The Kotak Life-DEPT partnership brings together three technology shifts that are increasingly relevant to insurers: cloud-native architecture, headless digital platforms and AI-led development.
For Kotak Life, these components are being brought together as part of a broader effort to make digital engagement more personalised while creating an architecture that can support AI across the insurance value chain.
The company’s stated focus on direct customer acquisition also connects the technology programme to a measurable business objective, rather than positioning the transformation solely around infrastructure modernisation.
As insurers continue to rethink their digital platforms, the challenge will be to ensure that modern architectures and AI capabilities translate into experiences that customers can use easily and consistently. Kotak Life’s current initiative is an example of how that transformation is being approached through a combination of architecture, development methodology and customer experience.
