SAP SE today announced a series of AI innovations at its annual SAP TechEd conference, expanding its portfolio for developers.
The enhancements to Joule Studio, Joule Work and SAP Business AI Platform, including SAP’s latest tabular foundation model, introduce new tools to build and extend AI agents, provide richer business context and strengthen governance across the enterprise.
SAP Business AI Platform offers a central environment to build, contextualise and govern AI across SAP and third-party systems. With Joule Studio, business users and developers can build and extend agents using no-code and pro-code tools, with access to more than 70 AI models. Customers in the Joule Studio early adopter programme can also design and run n8n workflows in the platform, with broader availability planned. SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Knowledge Graph provide agents with trusted business data and context, helping organisations select models for specific use cases and manage AI consumption. SAP said customer data would not be shared with third parties to train or improve large language models.
“SAP TechEd has always been where builders shape what comes next,” said Philipp Herzig, CTO of SAP SE. “This year, we are showing how we are moving from AI learning your business to running it. Joule Work is where you put your intent and get work done, in one experience across the entire SAP landscape and beyond. That is the shift we are delivering at scale. Everything underneath runs on SAP Business AI Platform, delivering faster time to value through out-of-the-box business understanding, higher accuracy, and enterprise readiness that is secure, governed and compliant from the first deployment.”
New capabilities in Joule Work will help AI agents handle complex business processes through open protocols, including Agent2Agent (A2A) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Agentic thinking capabilities will help plan and coordinate the steps required to execute multistep workflows across SAP environments.
SAP Knowledge Graph will incorporate data from additional SAP and non-SAP sources, allowing users to query customised data in natural language and receive answers grounded in their own information. Interoperability improvements will also allow third-party agents to invoke Joule Agents through a governed gateway, enabling collaboration across workflows while maintaining access controls.
The new SAP Enterprise AI Gateway will centralise governance of AI traffic, including authentication, policy enforcement, routing, monitoring, usage tracking and auditing. Updates to Joule Assistant and SAP AI Agent Hub will expand governance capabilities, while a new AI Governance Assistant is designed to help customers meet EU AI Act requirements by classifying AI systems and supporting compliance.
SAP also announced new observability and administrative controls in Joule Studio, giving developers and administrators visibility into agent behaviour, model usage and spending. Selected customers will be able to deploy and run custom agents on SAP-managed Joule Studio infrastructure free of charge through December 2026. The design-time tools for building and testing agents and n8n workflows will remain free within fair-use limits.
SAP Business Data Cloud Ontology Manager will provide an AI-native environment for building ontologies across SAP and third-party data. It is designed to help AI systems understand relationships between data from different teams and applications, complementing SAP Knowledge Graph’s business context capabilities.
SAP is expanding its Lakehouse capabilities with Dremio adding native support for Apache Iceberg and Apache Polaris, alongside a federated query engine for unified data access without moving or copying data. Its expanded partnership with Databricks will bring data engineering and enterprise AI capabilities into SAP Business Data Cloud as SAP Databricks. These include Lakeflow, Agent Bricks, Unity Gateway and Lakebase, alongside a new SAP Application Data Foundation and an integration between Joule and Genie. The initiatives aim to support an enterprise-wide Lakehouse for SAP’s AI offerings.
The SAP Reltio solution, previously announced at SAP Connect, will bring multidomain master data management to SAP Business Data Cloud. It is designed to unify customer, supplier and product records across SAP and non-SAP systems into reusable data products for applications and AI agents.
SAP announced SAP-RPT-2.0, its latest tabular AI model, which expands beyond classification and regression to support anomaly and outlier detection and analysis through embeddings. SAP also announced SAP-RPT-TS, a model designed to forecast time-indexed business metrics for use cases involving SAP Integrated Business Planning, without requiring custom machine-learning models.
In partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), SAP also announced plans to deploy SAP-RPT on the HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The model is intended to support anomaly detection, identify potential issues before failures escalate, reconstruct missing sensor values from historical data and generate mission-health reports without sending data back to Earth for analysis.
“The same trusted SAP-RPT model that powers global supply chains also can work in space,” said Herzig. “SAP’s deep-rooted expertise has led to the planned use of our tabular foundation model on the International Space Station to predict potential mission-critical failures in orbit. With SAP-RPT and TabPFN from Prior Labs, we bring the capabilities of tabular AI to enterprise applications and other environments.”
SAP plans to deliver prebuilt assistants and agents across five horizontal business domains, running on SAP Business AI Platform alongside industry-specific capabilities. The tools are intended to support decision-making and execute business tasks.
SAP also highlighted a collaboration with Intel focused on connecting enterprise workflows with autonomous robots through physical AI, linking information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). New SAP solution extensions with Docusign, Parloa and Redwood are intended to expand automation across business processes and reduce manual handoffs between systems.
SAP also highlighted developer training initiatives, including Devtoberfest, which attracted tens of thousands of participants ahead of SAP TechEd. Other resources include reference architectures, tutorials and hands-on learning opportunities available at the event and online.
