Udemy brings structured upskilling into ChatGPT through OpenAI partnership

Udemy has partnered with OpenAI to embed its learning and skills development platform directly into ChatGPT, marking a shift from generic AI tutoring towards structured, outcome-driven upskilling delivered inside conversational AI.

Under the new integration, Udemy’s content is available through a dedicated app within ChatGPT, combining the platform’s catalogue of more than 290,000 courses from over 90,000 instructors with ChatGPT’s conversational interface. Rather than offering ad hoc answers to learning queries, the integration brings Udemy’s broader reskilling operating system into the chat experience, covering skill discovery, learning, practice, validation and progression.

Learning has emerged as one of the most common use cases among ChatGPT’s roughly 800 million weekly active users. By embedding Udemy directly into these conversations, the companies are attempting to remove traditional barriers around content discovery and engagement, allowing learners to move from curiosity to structured learning without leaving the AI interface.

Unlike standard large language model tutoring, which typically focuses on explanation and Q&A, the Udemy app in ChatGPT provides access to expert-curated courses, assessments, hands-on labs and defined learning journeys designed to build verifiable expertise. Users can watch course videos within the chat interface, ask questions in real time as they learn, and explore content without logging in, lowering friction for first-time learners.

Hugo Sarrazin, President and CEO of Udemy, said the integration reflects a broader shift in how professionals want to learn. According to him, learners increasingly expect just-in-time, personalised development that fits around busy workdays. By placing structured learning directly into ChatGPT conversations, Udemy is aiming to expand access to professional skills training while maintaining a focus on validated, practical outcomes rather than surface-level answers.

The integration introduces several features designed to make learning feel more contextual and continuous. ChatGPT can proactively surface relevant Udemy courses when conversations indicate a learning need. Users can move seamlessly from discovery to in-chat video learning, and then on to full course enrolment on Udemy when they are ready to commit. For existing Udemy customers, the experience also extends to tracking learning paths, identifying skill gaps and monitoring progress milestones.

OpenAI is making the Udemy app available to logged-in ChatGPT users across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. The feature has launched initially in English, with subtitle support, and is positioned as an early step in a broader effort to make structured, high-quality education accessible through conversational AI.

By combining ChatGPT’s reach with Udemy’s structured learning framework, the partnership highlights how AI interfaces are evolving from information tools into platforms for sustained skill development—where conversation becomes the entry point, but mastery remains the goal.
