Wonderful bets on India’s enterprise AI shift, opens Mumbai operations to help scale AI beyond pilots

India’s enterprise AI market is entering a new phase. After months of experimentation and proof-of-concept projects, organisations are increasingly focused on deploying AI at scale and embedding it into core business operations. Recognising this shift, enterprise AI company Wonderful has announced its entry into the Indian market, establishing operations in Mumbai and appointing Bhavik Rathod as Managing Director for India.

The expansion is part of the company’s broader global growth strategy and reflects its view of India as a long-term market for enterprise AI adoption. Wonderful currently operates across more than 35 markets worldwide and recently secured US$150 million in Series B funding, taking its total funding to US$300 million.

While Indian enterprises have accelerated investments in AI, many continue to face a common challenge: moving beyond isolated pilot projects to enterprise-wide deployment.

As organisations introduce multiple AI agents, applications, workflows and governance policies across different business functions, managing them as disconnected initiatives becomes increasingly complex. This has created demand for integrated AI platforms that can provide a common operating layer across the enterprise rather than a collection of standalone AI tools.

Wonderful is positioning its AI Operating System to address this challenge by enabling enterprises to build, deploy and govern AI agents across multiple business functions while providing a common framework for workflows, integrations, governance and security.

The platform supports multiple modalities—including voice, chat, image and video—and is designed to be both model-agnostic and cloud-agnostic. Rather than requiring enterprises to adopt an end-to-end platform from day one, organisations can begin with high-priority use cases and expand incrementally as adoption matures.

According to the company, every new skill, workflow, integration and AI agent developed on the platform can be reused across future deployments, reducing duplication while maintaining enterprise governance through identity management, permissions and audit trails.

Wonderful plans to work with large enterprises across sectors including banking and financial services (BFSI), telecommunications, healthcare, retail and media.

Its India strategy focuses on helping organisations design, build, test, deploy and govern AI agents across business functions such as customer support, sales, back-office operations, HR, engineering and operations.

Unlike traditional software deployments, the company follows a co-development model through Forward Deployed Engineering teams that work alongside enterprise technology and business teams from strategy through implementation, with the objective of enabling customers to gradually build AI capabilities internally.

As part of its India expansion, Wonderful will establish its India office in Mumbai and plans to significantly expand its local workforce over the coming year.

Hiring will focus on Forward Deployed Engineering, Deployment Strategy and Go-to-Market functions, reflecting the company’s emphasis on local implementation capabilities rather than remote delivery.

“Indian enterprises are moving quickly from exploring AI to identifying where it can deliver measurable business value. As organisations look to scale successful deployments, they need partners who can work alongside their teams and execute at speed. We see India as a long-term growth market and are committed to building deep, on-the-ground partnerships that help organizations move from isolated AI initiatives to enterprise-wide transformation while strengthening their internal capabilities over time. Building a strong local team is central to that commitment,” said Bhavik Rathod, Managing Director, Wonderful India.

Rathod brings more than two decades of experience in building and scaling technology businesses in India. His previous experience includes leading the launch and expansion of Uber Eats in the country, with expertise spanning market expansion, team building and go-to-market execution.

His appointment comes at a time when enterprise AI adoption in India is moving beyond experimentation, requiring stronger local execution capabilities and closer collaboration between technology providers and enterprise teams.

For Wonderful, the India launch represents more than a geographic expansion. It signals a strategic investment in a market where enterprises are increasingly looking for platforms that can help operationalise AI at scale, moving from isolated use cases to integrated, enterprise-wide transformation.
