Chip maker AMD has launched new variants of FirePro graphics cards – W8100 and W9100 for workstation and personal computing. These two graphics cards are based on company’s second generation GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture.

The W8100 graphics card is nearly 38 times faster in performance to its competitor and it is powered by OpenCL (Open Computing Language). It is designed for the next generation 4K CAD (Computing Aided Design) and M &E (Media & Entertainment) workflows, engineering analysis and supercomputing applications. It features 8 GB GDDR5 memory, up to 4.2 TFLOPS of single precision compute performance and double precision compute performance of up to 2.1 TFLOPS.

While, W9100 runs on 16GB GDDR5 memory that offers workstation users multi-task abilities for efficiently across up to six 4K displays, load massive assemblies and data sets to manipulate them, or edit, color-correct and layer in multiple effects to 4K video projects, all in real-time.

According to Raja Koduri, Corporate Vice President – AMD Visual Computing, the new graphics card offer high computing performance with end-to-end workflow accelerations.

“With an increase in availability and accessibility of 4K displays, there has been a rise in the applications demanding increased memory support while pushing the limits of real-time 4K video production and rendering. The addition of AMD FirePro W8100 is a significant step towards expanding our product portfolio for enabling professionals – in cooperation with our hardware and software partners – with the best kind of workstation performance that they need for supercomputing applications and next generation 4K workflows,” said Koduri.

About W9100, Koduri pointed that it is a terrific card designed for demanding workflows in next-generation workstations. “Equipped with 16GB GDDR5 of ultra-fast on-board memory, and the ability to support up to six 4K displays via six Mini DisplayPort outputs1, the AMD FirePro W9100 graphics card is the ideal single-GPU solution for the next generation of ultra-high resolution visualization environments,” he added.

Beside the new series of FirePro graphics card, AMD also launched its Radeon R9 285 graphics card for India market. The Radeon R9 285 was launched in August early this year during AMD’s 30 years of graphics event. Like AMD Radeon R9 290, the new R9 285 graphics card offers support for Project FreeSync and AMD TrueAudio technology keeping in mind gamers. It has been designed to run the most emanding games with ultimate settings at 1080p and beyond. Company is offering the R9 285 at Rs19,990 while it has not disclosed prices for W8100 and W9100.

These new series of high performance graphics cards were unveiled at AMD Technology Showcase 2014 event in Goa.
