DSCI successfully concludes 9th best practices meet focused on Cognitive Security

Data Security Council of India (DSCI) organized its ninth edition of Best Practices Meet (BPM)from 22-23 June. BPM is one of the India’s foremost events that focuses on the contemporary evolution of varied aspects of security. The evolution of technology innovation and approach to security towards ‘Cognitive Computing’ has inspired this year’s theme as ‘Cognitive Security’.

With Cloud computing is permeating into our lives and also transforming business models- cases spanning speech, image and voice recognition and influencing various scenarios in healthcare, e-commerce, banking and bio-informatics, among others, cyber security is seen to be tapping onto the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence, Machine and Deep Learning. With this backdrop, BPM agenda focused on contemporary evolution in security underscoring the emphasis on adoption of cognitive and data driven technologies, techniques and solutions and discussions around the challenges brought forth. Key topics deliberated during the two day conference included Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automotive Security, SOCs are transitioning to Cyber Defense, Cybercrime Investigation, Cognitive Risk Framework and more.

To enable focused discussions on ongoing challenges faced by the industry, DSCI organized workshops on Malware Forensics, Cyber Insurance, Data Science, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)Implementation, Product Security & DevSec Ops, Indicators of Compromise& Attacks and others. Along with some intriguing session on Privacy in Identity systems and policy expectations in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Block Chain, encryption etc, the conference witnessed security startups showcasing cutting-edge capabilities and setting new benchmarks for innovation in India in the domain.
Gopal Pillai, Chairman, DSCI during the inauguration said “India is witnessing an unprecedented wave of Digitalization. Government both central and state with their initiatives including Digital India and Smart cities are poised to transform the public service delivery. At this juncture, it is important that Industry step-up its competencies and delivery capabilities to meet the expectations of Government and Enterprises as a whole.” He also added “Conferences like these help in bringing stakeholders together to deliberate on the perspectives and expectations leading to actionable outcomes.”

Expressing her thoughts at the conference Rama Vedashree, CEO, DSCI said “with the rapidly evolving technology innovation landscape, our approach to security needs a paradigm shift. The outlook towards cyber security in India is seen transitioning from reactive risk mitigation approach to a more holistic readiness to protect against the escalating cyber threat landscape. We are already witnessing management attention to Cyber Security at the level of PMO in Government, and Board level in the industry. In our endeavor to step up India’s readiness and establishing robust security discipline, there cannot be a more pertinent time to have industry level discussion about ‘Cognitive Security’ which is emerging as a founding block of many contemporary security capabilities. We are glad to see the overwhelming response on the subject.”

Talking about the technologies and solutions in this space she said “though the market today is at nascent stage, but we see that changing over the next few years with startups playing a key role.”
