eGovWatch: Over 3.5 crore registration on ‘Shram Suvidha’ portal

The Government has recorded over 3.5 crore registrations since the launch of ‘Shram Suvidha’ Portal, a mechanism to revamp labour inspection system, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said.

He said the facility will enable Labour Identification Number (LIN) for the employers.

“With the LIN, the employer will make an account for the employees and provide bank account linked with Aadhar Cards.

“So, the savings of the employee through EPFO automatically goes to the employee. This facility provides transparency besides accountability, which is a major challenge for us,” Dattatreya said.

Pointing out that the government wants to be “industry friendly”, he said that industrial inspections have been simplified and online inspections are facilitated.

“We have simplified the inspections, wherein online inspections are being done. There should not be corruption and harassment. Random inspections would also be done in the event of any complaints,” he noted.

Earlier, addressing the gathering on the occasion, he said that he would focus on the unorganised sector, as it constitutes 93 per cent of the total work force in India.

Speaking about the housing sector, Dattatreya said about 4.30 crore workers are employed in the sector, of which only eight per cent were skilled labours.

But the quantum of skilled labours in the housing sector was much higher in countries like Australia, China and Japan, he said, while urging employers in the construction industry to pay attention for skill development of labours that would benefit the sector.
