eGovWatch: Uttar Pradesh tops in Aadhaar card generation

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leader in Aadhaar card generation, pipping Maharashtra behind with completion of 9.17 crore such cards.

The work for generating Aadhaar cards for those not yet covered in the state will also be completed soon, an official statement issued by regional office of UIDAI said on Wednesday.

“Following the state government directives from time to time to its departments and agencies the work is going on at a fast pace and linking of Aadhaar numbers in the beneficiary database of government schemes has given more strength to the project,” the statement said.

With a view to giving momentum to the pace of enrollment in the state, over 4 lakh residents are being enrolled every day with about 9,000 enrollment kits at 2,755 enrollment centres operated by 70 enrollment agencies, the Unique Identification Authority of India said.

A total of 872 Permanent Enrollment Centres (PEC) are being operated across the state to facilitate residents not only to enroll for Aadhaar and resolve other issues but also provide the facility of e-Aadhaar generation, it said.

Training and certification examination camps had been organised from December 2014 to February 2015 resulting in successful certification of more than 2,000 operators and supervisors who are joining the workforce to boost enrollment process in the state.

The work on linking the biggest biometric database Aadhaar with various central government schemes and offices is going on, the statement said.

The Aadhaar database is the largest biometric database in the world and as per Government of India’s decision, Aadhaar is to be linked to various schemes and initiatives, it added.
