F5 and Oracle plan collaboration to strengthen application security on OCI

F5 and Oracle have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore integrating F5’s web application and API protection (WAAP) technology with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), aiming to help customers defend applications and APIs against evolving cyber threats.

The planned collaboration is intended to protect cloud-hosted workloads against sophisticated attacks while simplifying security operations and reducing the need for specialised security expertise. The companies said the proposed integration would bring F5’s application security capabilities into the OCI environment.

The initiative comes as AI-powered attacks increase the speed at which vulnerabilities can be identified and exploited, putting pressure on enterprises to secure exposed systems while remediation is under way. F5 said its technology could help provide virtual patching to shield vulnerable applications while teams address underlying issues.

“Together, we plan to bring F5’s application security expertise into OCI, helping customers protect critical applications and APIs while simplifying security operations, backed by Oracle’s cloud infrastructure and support,” said kp Papamiltiadis, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships at Oracle.

John Maddison, Chief Marketing Officer at F5, said the planned integration aims to give security, application and platform teams a way to protect critical workloads without adding operational complexity.

The companies have not announced a deployment timeline or detailed availability plans. The collaboration remains at the planned stage under the non-binding MoU.
