Hitachi to launch global digital services company Hitachi Digital in April 2027

Hitachi Ltd. has announced plans to launch Hitachi Digital Inc., a global digital services company that will bring its US subsidiaries GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services under a single brand from April 1, 2027.

The announcement follows an integration plan disclosed in January 2026. The new company will focus on cloud computing, data, artificial intelligence (AI), digital engineering and enterprise operations, with services aimed at organisations across industries that depend on complex and mission-critical systems.

Hitachi Digital will bring together approximately 35,000 professionals across 27 countries and serve more than 880 active clients, according to the company. Its operations will combine GlobalLogic’s software and product engineering capabilities with Hitachi Digital Services’ enterprise systems and operational expertise.

The integration is intended to bring digital product development, enterprise modernisation and technology operations under one organisation. Hitachi said the business would support clients across the digital transformation lifecycle, from developing new products and AI capabilities to modernising existing enterprise systems and managing their operations.

The new company will also draw on Hitachi’s experience in building and operating infrastructure, particularly in industries where technology systems support critical business and operational functions.

Anand Birje, CEO and Chairman of Hitachi Digital, said the company would bring digital engineering and operations together, allowing it to work with clients on technology development, enterprise modernisation and ongoing operations.

Focus on AI, cloud and enterprise applications

Hitachi Digital will offer services across several areas, including Physical AI, data and intelligence, cloud and site reliability engineering (SRE), and enterprise applications.

Physical AI refers to the application of AI in physical environments and systems, including industrial operations. Hitachi plans to use its operational technology (OT) expertise and industry knowledge to support the adoption of AI across sectors such as manufacturing, mobility and energy.

The company will also work on enterprise AI applications and use its combined capabilities to support digital transformation projects within the Hitachi Group and for external clients.

Hitachi said the new organisation would continue to develop its intellectual property, including HMAX by Hitachi, a suite of solutions designed to apply AI to social infrastructure.

The company also plans to expand its strategic partnerships across the technology ecosystem, covering areas ranging from data infrastructure to advanced AI research organisations. Investments in AI, data and cloud talent, along with acquisitions and expanded technology alliances, will form part of its growth plans.

Hitachi Digital will also support the adoption of Lumada 3.0, Hitachi’s initiative focused on digital solutions and co-creation with clients.

Forward Deployed Engineers to support implementation

A key part of Hitachi Digital’s operating model will be its Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), who will work directly in client environments to implement digital technologies and AI applications.

These teams will include AI specialists, data scientists and engineers working alongside clients and technology partners. Their responsibilities will involve applying digital capabilities within enterprise systems and operational environments.

The approach is intended to connect AI development with the practical requirements of businesses, particularly those operating complex systems. This includes implementing technologies in environments where software, data and physical infrastructure need to function together.

Hitachi said it would expand its FDE teams as part of its broader investment in AI, data and cloud capabilities.

The company also reported that revenue generated through synergies with other Hitachi Group businesses increased 46% year-on-year in the first half. The announcement did not specify the absolute revenue generated through these activities.

The integration will allow Hitachi to combine GlobalLogic’s digital engineering work with Hitachi Digital Services’ enterprise and operational services. The group plans to use these capabilities to expand the deployment of enterprise AI and Physical AI across its businesses and client operations.

Existing capabilities to be consolidated

The two businesses being brought together have received industry analyst recognition for their respective service capabilities, according to Hitachi.

Hitachi cited assessments by ISG Research that ranked the businesses as leaders in areas including intelligent robotics and Physical AI services, digital engineering services, and generative AI services.

Gowtham Sampath, assistant director and principal analyst at ISG Research, said the businesses had developed capabilities in areas such as robotics, AI-driven decision-making, digital engineering, research and development services, intelligent operations, and application services.

Hitachi Digital will consolidate these areas within a single organisation, combining software engineering and consulting with enterprise technology and operational expertise.

The company expects the integration to support its wider digital business strategy, including the expansion of AI-based services for industrial and enterprise clients.

Jun Abe, executive vice president and head of the Digital Systems & Services Sector at Hitachi, said the integration would bring together GlobalLogic’s digital engineering capabilities, Hitachi Digital Services’ enterprise and operational expertise, and the group’s knowledge of operational technology and social infrastructure.

According to Hitachi, the new company will work with clients on digital transformation projects while supporting the expansion of Lumada 3.0 and the group’s broader business objectives under its management plan, Inspire 2027.

Hitachi Digital is scheduled to begin operations on April 1, 2027. Until then, the announcement outlines the planned integration of GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services, with both businesses set to operate under the Hitachi Digital brand as part of the new organisational structure.
