Karbonn to manufacture 30 million smartphones per year from Haryana plant

The Bawal, Haryana plant which is currently manufacturing 1.5 million units in a month will increase production to 2.5 million by end of 2016, said Karbonn Mobile.

The homegrown smartphone maker Karbonn Mobiles expects to manufacture 30 million mobile units per year from its recently launched third mobile manufacturing plant in Bawal, Haryana. In a statement company said that the Haryana plant which was set up within a short span of six months had 22 assembly lines and would manufacture 30 million mobile units per year.

According to company officials, the Bawal, Haryana plant is currently manufacturing 1.5 million units in a month and company expects production to increase to 2.5 million by end of 2016. In order to bring customised products in market at a faster time, the company would also be skilling 4000 employees at the Haryana plant.

Karbonn Mobiles already has two manufacturing units in Noida and this plant in Haryana is the third one. In addition, company is setting up fourth unit – an integrated facility at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh in order to venture into accessories and battery manufacturing. The plant that will be operational by September 2016 would feature surface-mount technology (SMT) production and assembly lines, along with charger and battery units for the supplies.

In October last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for a dedicated mobile handset and electronics manufacturing facility at Tirupati. Apart from Karbonn, brands like Micromax, Celkon and Lava are also setting up plants in Tirupati.

Karbonn says that it has a presence across India with over 85,000+ retail partners and 900+ service centres and with an investment of Rs 2000 crores over the next year, it aims to become the largest mobile phone manufacturer in India.
