Netflix’s New Feature Aims to Woo The Audience

At a time when Netflix is jostling hard, and putting up a brave fight with other streaming platforms, it’s new feature strives hard to be ahead of the curve.

Just a few days back, while Express Computer talked about Netflix’s new initiative to roll out new features, here’s some addition to it. As per this, Netflix’s new feature would be ranking the 10 most popular programs on the app in your country.

The overall top 10 list would display the most popular programs, from all Netflix content, for both shows and movies. Also, a separate top 10 lists only for movies and shows would be readily available, when one switches over to either the Movies or TV show tab in the app.

Netflix says that these lists would be updated daily, and are intended to help the users find out what everyone else is watching. This would be much easier for the user as if he is searching for something to watch or browse through his recommendations, it would be convenient to see if a top 10 program is featuring among your results.

Though Netflix says that this is the first time it has rolled out a top 10 ranking system, however, it has been experimenting with the top 10 feature before in the UK and Mexico.

It’s not a secret that the feature comes at The top 10 list would be appearing on the home screen of Netflix, however, the list would vary as per the relevant shows and films. For instance, if you have a thing for horror, then a top 10 list filled with rom-com would not feature high on your screen.

Also, the list has been designed in such a way that it stands out from the other rows of recommendations. Now, rather than displaying just image thumbnails of the titles, it also includes big numerals, in order to show how titles are ranked.

At a time when Netflix is already feeling increased pressure from other streaming platforms. Also, it hasn’t really won a series race at the Emmy’s, and its biggest bet ‘The Irishman’ was one of the biggest snubs this year at Oscars.

No hard metrics are provided by Netflix’s top 10 list, however, it helps in pinpointing popular programming and other successes that Netflix can have in the future.
