NSN to divest BSS unit

Mobile network equipment maker, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), said on Tuesday that it intended to divest its Business Support Systems (BSS) unit as part of its restructuring plan. It is in talks with interested parties for the sale as per a top company official.

According to news reports early this month, Ericsson is the frontrunner to buy the unit, which offers billing and charging systems for telecom operators.

The company expects overall spending in the telecommunications space to be flat for the full year 2012 but it sees an uptick in investments in the United States during the second half, said Rajeev Suri, Chief Executive, NSN.

NSN is currently in the process of a restructuring program involving trimming of headcount by 17,000 to improve profits and cash flow.
