SUSE empowers India’s digital sovereignty with open source infrastructure

SUSE has outlined its strategy to support Indian enterprises in building sovereign AI capabilities and resilient digital infrastructure, highlighting open-source technologies designed to help organisations move AI workloads from pilot projects to production while maintaining control over data, infrastructure and deployment environments.

SUSE said Indian organisations are increasingly prioritising digital sovereignty as they navigate AI adoption alongside evolving regulatory requirements.

According to SUSE’s Navigating Digital Resilience 2026 report, 62% of Indian organisations identify digital sovereignty as a strategic investment priority, compared with a global average of 52%. The report also found that while 90% of Indian IT leaders are prepared to increase AI investments, many continue to face challenges in deploying secure and compliant AI infrastructure at scale.

SUSE said its strategy focuses on enabling organisations to deploy AI within private environments while maintaining control over data and infrastructure. The company highlighted SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA, which combines NVIDIA AI Enterprise with SUSE’s governance capabilities to help enterprises deploy private AI environments while addressing data governance and compliance requirements.

The company also showcased its integrated open infrastructure portfolio, which combines Linux, cloud-native platforms, edge computing, AI, telecommunications and SAP capabilities to support multi-cloud operations. SUSE said the platform enables organisations to manage workloads across different environments while maintaining operational resilience and jurisdictional control over data.

Commenting on the company’s AI strategy, Rhys Oxenham, Vice President and General Manager of AI at SUSE, said, “Moving AI from pilot to production scale isn’t about becoming dependent on third-party APIs. Organisations fundamentally need to own their intelligence. SUSE also said it is supporting India’s digital initiatives by providing open infrastructure for programmes such as the IndiaAI Mission and India Stack, while incorporating features such as zero-trust security and software bills of materials (SBOMs) to help organisations meet compliance requirements under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and CERT-In guidelines.
