Curtain Raiser: Smart Manufacturing Conclave

Express Computer is organising the Smart Manufacturing Conclave, a virtual conference, on December 15, 2021. The one-day conference will witness participation from industry stalwarts, who will share their views on how India is on the threshold of become a leading global manufacturing power.

The manufacturing sector has emerged as one of the highest growth sectors in India with immense potential for employment. The Indian Government has set an ambitious target of increasing the contribution of manufacturing output to 25 per cent of GDP by 2025.

In keeping with this vision, the Government has launched several initiatives such as the ‘Make in India’ programme, and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for large scale electronics manufacturing and aims to create 100 million new jobs in the manufacturing sector by 2022.  Furthermore, the country has the potential to become a global manufacturing hub by 2030.

India has a lucrative platform for foreign investments in the manufacturing sector. With numerous mobile phones, automobile, luxury, and technology brands constantly setting up or on the lookout for setting up their manufacturing bases in India.

The Government aims to ensure holistic development of the nation, by establishing industrial corridors and various smart cities across the country.

With that being said, India still lags global giants, in terms of infrastructure and capabilities. Can India, with its traditional strengths in software services, address the huge gap in manufacturing efficiencies? Can Indian manufacturers take advantage of technologies such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data and improve efficiencies to a new level?
