Microsoft Office Online to get Skype voice & video call in November

Microsoft brings Skype integration to Office Online and announces new Chrome extension

Microsoft has announced that it will bring Skype voice and video integration directly into Office online next month. Microsoft had announced this feature with Office 2016 allowing users to co-author documents in real-time and chat with co-authors via Skype. The new integration will be available for all Office Online services like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. The Skype voice and video integration will also be made available in Outlook.com allowing Microsoft account users to speak with their Skype contacts.

The key to Microsoft’s Office 2016 is collaborative experience and Microsoft says in a blog post that all the instant messaging history will stay within the document. This will grant flexibility to co-author, who can also edit documents on the go. In addition, Microsoft has also announced a new Chrome extension that allows Chrome users to create and open Word, Excel, PowerPoint files using office Online from within the Chrome browser. The new extension also supports documents stored on OneDrive or OneDrive for Business.
