Nihilent launches AI-powered emotion detection and wellness app nSEPIA

0 4

Nihilent Limited has launched nSEPIA, an AI-powered emotion detection and emotional wellness application designed to help individuals understand their emotional state in real time and identify personalised ways to work towards emotional balance.

The app, which will be available internationally on Android and iOS, uses the company’s Emoscape technology to assess a user’s emotional state and recommend interventions across music, breathwork, yoga and meditation.

The experience starts with a brief interaction using a device’s camera. nSEPIA uses Emotion AI to analyse spatial and temporal movement patterns across the face and eye region, along with head and upper-body movements, to assess the user’s emotional state. The assessment is processed on the device, according to Nihilent, to protect user privacy.

Users can then engage with a recommended intervention and reassess their emotional state to observe any change. The company said this creates a cycle of awareness, intervention and reflection rather than simply asking users to identify how they feel or select wellness content themselves.

L.C. Singh, founder and executive chairman, Nihilent, said the application brings the company’s work on understanding emotions into an everyday consumer experience.

“nSEPIA brings that understanding into everyday life. It gives an individual an opportunity to become aware of the emotion in the moment and, instead of simply living through it, take a relevant step towards balance,” Singh said. “Technology, in this sense, is not replacing human understanding; it is helping us become more aware of ourselves.”

The app’s intervention ecosystem includes Indian classical ragas, Western symphonic music and specially created compositions, along with meditation, breathwork and yoga experiences. The company said these practices draw on established Indian traditions, including influences from the B.K.S. Iyengar tradition, and have been developed with inputs from relevant experts. Guided reflection is also included as a way for users to engage with their emotional state.

Dr Vihang Vahia, consultant psychiatrist and professor emeritus of psychiatry, said the technology could bring greater objectivity to understanding emotions.

“Emotions are integral to human behaviour and well-being, yet understanding their impact has traditionally depended on what an individual can recognise, articulate or report,” Vahia said. “Bringing greater objectivity to how emotions are understood is therefore an important development.”

nSEPIA is powered by Emoscape, Nihilent’s medical-grade Emotion AI platform. The technology combines artificial intelligence, computer vision and machine learning in a proprietary, patent-protected framework based on the Navarasa principles described in the Natyashastra. Nihilent said Emoscape has been evaluated through scientific and academic research for its ability to assess human emotions objectively.

While Emoscape is intended for professional and institutional applications, nSEPIA extends the emotion-awareness technology to individuals for everyday use.

With the launch, Nihilent said it aims to make emotional self-awareness more accessible and actionable, helping users recognise emotions as they arise, engage with them consciously and work towards a more balanced emotional state.
