The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has come out with its E-book enlisting performance and initiatives taken for improving ease of doing business and increasing FDI.
It said that during 2014-15, several initiatives have been taken to give the necessary thrust to manufacturing, whose share in the GDP was around 15 per cent.
“Major Initiatives have been taken in the last seven months for improving ‘ease of doing business’ in India through simplification and rationalisation of the existing rules and introduction of information technology to make governance more efficient and effective,” the E-book said.
After de-licensing several products in the defence sector, it said that 61 pending applications for defence industries have been disposed of, including granting of 43 licenses, and advising that 18 applications do not need license.
It has also mentioned about the launch of ‘Make in India’ campaign to attract investments and boost manufacturing sector growth.
A national workshop was held last month which highlighted the plan of action in the short and medium term involving the Centre, state governments and the industry for creating an enabling framework for stimulating investments in manufacturing, it added.
About its eBiz project, it said that eight more central government services – PAN and TAN services of CBDT, DIN, name availability, certificate of incorporation and certificate of commencement of business services of ministry of corporate affairs, exporter-importer code service of DGFT and employer registration service of EPFO – are expected to be integrated shortly.
For leather sector, it said as against the target set out for 2014-15 to provide training under leather development programme to 54,000 persons, the same has been provided to 93,105 unemployed persons in the current year.
“Government is taking steps to ramp up this training programme to cover 1,38,000 persons for 2014-15 with mandatory placement of at least 75 per cent by March 2015 and 1,44,000 persons during 2015-16,” it added.
Further it added that the DIPP has taken up the issue of preparation of standards for lead free paints with Bureau of India Standards.
“In the first phase 9 items relating to different types of paints have been identified in consultation with the Indian Paint Association. BIS has finalised the standards for these 9 items,” it said.
