Artificial intelligence is poised to move beyond being a productivity tool and become a core driver of transformation in the life insurance industry, says Goutam Dutta, Chief Information Digital Officer, Bajaj Life Insurance. In an exclusive conversation with Express Computer, Dutta highlights how AI is already reshaping underwriting, risk assessment, fraud detection, straight-through processing and customer experience, while pointing to a much larger transformation ahead.
Dutta argues that insurers cannot afford to focus digital investments only on the “periphery” of the business. Much like upgrading a car requires improving its engine rather than merely its dashboard, he says meaningful transformation must address the core processes that determine how insurance is priced, assessed and delivered. Looking ahead, he expects the next five years to bring a new generation of insurers that use AI, audio and video interfaces, and trusted third-party data sources to create significantly more frictionless insurance journeys while operating within regulatory boundaries.
