Amazon Seller Services India Pvt Ltd today said that its plans to open five more fulfillment centres (FCs) in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon).

With the additional storage capacity and its two existing fulfillment centres on the outskirts of Mumbai and Bangalore, Amazon has almost doubled its total storage capacity to over half million square feet, offering fulfillment services to thousands of retailers and small and medium businesses (SMBs) across the country.

This investment is part of Amazon’s continued focus on enhancing online shopping experience for consumers in India and enabling SMBs to get a scalable and robust national platform using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). The new facility will provide existing and new retailers from both south  and north India closer access to Amazon’s fulfillment capabilities.

Seller of all sizes will be able to take advantage of this new, modern, multilevel, secure facilities equipped with Amazon’s warehousing systems and processes to stock and store millions of products of all sizes across several categories using Fulfillment by Amazon for immediate shipment to customers.

Customers in these states and nearby areas can expect broader selection across categories available for immediate shipment and eligible for Amazon’s next-day and same-day guaranteed delivery services.

“We are very excited by our rapid growth and the response we have received from customers and sellers since our launch just over a year ago. The launch of these five new fulfillment centres is part of our continued investment in providing fast and reliable delivery across vast selection of products, and enabling sellers of all sizes to achieve nationwide scale,” said Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India.

“Sellers have greatly appreciated our Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, a pay-as-you-go service and a key feature of our e-commerce platform. A Q1 2014 survey conducted with Sellers on Amazon.in who have used FBA showed 85% of respondents reporting a sales increase since joining FBA and of these 40% of respondents reporting a sales increase of at least 30%,” said Amit Deshpande, Director & GM Seller Services, Amazon India.

“With the opening of new FCs across five Indian states comprising of Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan & Gujarat, we will enable many more SMEs in India to take advantage of this service and help them expand their online business. We will continue to do the heavy lifting on behalf of sellers so that they can focus on providing our customers with vast selection at competitive prices and in turn sell more and earn more money,” added Deshpande.

The fulfillment centre in Chennai is already operational and the remaining four FCs will be operational next month.
