Panchkula district has emerged as the top performer among all the 21 districts of the state in the Digital India Campaign which was conducted following the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to digitally empower the nation.

The seven-day campaign was observed from July 1 to 7, with the aim to ensure that all government services are made available to citizens electronically and people get the benefit of the latest information technology. The campaign witnessed the launch of various IT-enabled services across the state.

Panchkula is closely followed by Jind and Sirsa among the list of best performing districts of the state. The award will be presented by Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad at a function being organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (IT) in Delhi on December 28.

While the e-services were launched in all the districts by the Haryana government, the district administration along with National Informatics Centres (NIC) were entrusted with the task to ensure that the services are available for the public. As many as 22 Common Service Centres (CSCs) were set up across the district.

The week-long campaign involved digitally empowering people through schemes like online registration of complaints, online attendance in government offices, online addition/deletion in voter details in electoral rolls and online registration of patients in hospitals. Workshops were held under National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM), wherein Asha workers, Aanganwari workers and government employees were educated about the online services launched by the government Terming it a matter of pride, newly appointed Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Brar said, “The priority of the government is to connect with people through more number of e-services, and this award to Panchkula indicates that the district has achieved those targets during the campaign.”

Brar also lauded the efforts of his predecessor Vivek Atray, under whom the campaign was organised.
Talking to Newsline, Atray said, “Right from the beginning, our focus had been on better delivery of online services amidst constraints of Internet connectivity. It began with improving the functioning of e-Disha centres by increasing the number of services available under one roof, and the working hours. Apart from ensuring implementation of e-services, the district led the way in encouraging people to avail these services online. We also organised e-literacy workshops for villagers and senior citizens.”
