Engineering students in Assam to benefit from DITEC internship rolled out by Ashwani Kumar, Director, DITEC
The Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITEC), Government of Assam, has launched a state-wide internship programme aimed at providing practical industry exposure to engineering students. The initiative is specifically targeted at students pursuing degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology from AICTE-recognised institutions within Assam.
The internship will be conducted at the DITEC headquarters in Guwahati and will run for a duration of 4 to 8 weeks, based on the academic requirements of the students. Selected interns will engage directly with live government IT projects and work alongside senior officials and technical teams. Upon successful completion of the internship, participants will be awarded a certificate issued by the Directorate.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by offering students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. It also helps identify talented individuals at an early stage through hands-on evaluation of their skills and professionalism. By bringing in youthful perspectives, the programme encourages fresh thinking and innovation within government systems.
Additionally, the internship seeks to promote local talent retention by creating valuable opportunities within Assam itself. Students will gain exposure to modern tools and technologies, which support their technical skill development in line with current industry standards. The programme also emphasises the importance of communication and teamwork, helping students build essential soft skills through collaborative projects and structured reporting.
Interns will be encouraged to engage in research and problem-solving activities that are central to digital governance, contributing directly to ongoing government initiatives at minimal cost. This not only supports digital transformation efforts but also enhances the reputation of Assam’s technical institutions by producing success stories that reflect well on their quality of education.
Importantly, the programme is designed to empower students from rural or underrepresented backgrounds by providing them with confidence and exposure to high-level work environments. It strengthens long-term collaboration between government and academia and inspires entrepreneurial thinking by exposing students to product development ecosystems.
Under the leadership of Ashwani Kumar, this internship programme reflects the Government of Assam’s commitment to building a tech-ready youth population and positioning the state as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
