IBM expands cloud push with first Data Centre in India

IBM has expanded its cloud footprint with the first data centre in India. The company has opened a new 30,000 sq. ft. cloud centre in Airoli, Mumbai. This new facility is the latest IBM Cloud Centre in the world’s major markets as part of its global cloud centre expansion.

This new centre is in addition to other global centres located at London, Amsterdam, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, Toronto, Dallas and Raleigh opened this year alone as well as the newly announced cloud centre opened last week in Paris.

In addition to the need for a global network of cloud centres to address growing client demands, companies also looking for a secure, dedicated and highly available environment that enables greater flexibility and an open cloud.

To address this, IBM is also introducing the IBM Cloud OpenStack Services via the IBM Cloud marketplace. This will enable greater interoperability between existing IT systems and off-premise cloud workloads and provides its clients with the means to more easily deploy an OpenStack cloud

The Mumbai center is part of a 15 cloud centre expansion and a $1.2 billion investment by IBM Cloud to grow its cloud presence around the world. IBM’s cloud commitment includes the industry’s only an in-house business consulting division which features more than 40,000 cloud experts who are located around the globe. These experts are dedicated working face-to-face with clients in order to address all of their industry specific needs as they transform to the cloud era.

“This new Mumbai center represents IBM’s latest investment in creating the most extensive network of cloud facilities in the industry. Through this new center we are able to help usher businesses into the cloud era while delivering the levels of resiliency and security that allow them to experience the benefits of this new environment while ensuring they remain protected,” said ,” said Lingraju Sawkar, Director – Integrated Technology Services, Global Technology Services IBM India / SA.

The 30,000 sq ft Mumbai facility will operate round the clock to offers an array of solutions including proven cloud resiliency services. These services guarantee customers up times of 99.99% percent across any IT environment, including traditional IT, public, private, or hybrid cloud deployments. In the event of an outage, the center’s support team can recover data in minutes to ensure that is has little to no impact on business operations while going virtually unseen by customers.
