India’s aviation sector took centre stage at the recently concluded Inter Passenger Terminal Show (IPTS) 2025, held on 11–12 June at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The event witnessed robust participation from aviation leaders, government officials, infrastructure firms, and technology providers, all aligned around the shared goal of building smarter, sustainable and passenger-first airport ecosystems.

With India poised to become one of the world’s top three aviation markets by 2030, IPTS 2025 emerged as a timely forum to discuss strategies and solutions around future-ready terminal design, biometric integration, AI-led security, and digitally connected travel. The platform also served as a hub for cross-sector collaboration, as stakeholders deliberated on the convergence of data, design and policy for enhanced passenger experiences.

The event was held in strategic partnership with Navi Mumbai International Airport and saw participation from notable organisations such as Digi Yatra, Dormakaba, Diamond Engineering, Waisl, and Cognitec. Over 60 exhibitors from more than 10 countries showcased solutions across terminal infrastructure, security, baggage handling, biometrics, and energy efficiency.

The conference featured thought-provoking keynotes and panel discussions on a wide array of themes, including:

  • Seamless intermodal transport integration

  • Smart terminal architecture and sustainability goals

  • AI/ML in passenger flow and predictive analytics

  • Biometric-based security and zero-trust models

  • Future-proofing infrastructure investments through digitisation

Opening discussions focused on India’s rapidly expanding airport infrastructure pipeline, which includes investments exceeding ₹60,000 crore through 2027. With passenger numbers soaring, panellists stressed the need to embed agility and sustainability into every aspect of terminal development.

Distinguished speakers included:

  • Capt. BVJK Sharma, CEO, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA)

  • Prabhat Mahapatra, COO, NMIA

  • Hitarth Mankodi, COO, Mumbai International Airport Ltd

  • Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO, Digi Yatra Foundation

  • Jens Reinhard, MD, GATE – German Airport Technology & Equipment Alliance

  • Sven Deckers, Director – Sustainability, Innovation & Partnerships, Dubai Airports

  • Dr Sumeet Suseelan, Member, Ministry of Civil Aviation – AAC

Commenting on the evolution of India’s airport ecosystem, Capt. BVJK Sharma noted, “The future of aviation lies in passenger-centric infrastructure—where design, data, and experience come together to create seamless journeys. IPTS 2025 offered a unique platform to co-create that vision.”

One of the focal points was sustainability, with discussions on decarbonising airport operations while ensuring operational efficiency. The keynote on “Sustainable Airport Ecosystems” generated compelling insights on green terminal design, renewable integration, and cost-efficient energy practices.

Highlighting the role of technology, Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, stated, “We are working towards a frictionless travel ecosystem that balances identity, security, and personalisation. IPTS gave us an ideal stage to align with policymakers and industry on accelerating this transformation.”

As India’s domestic air travel continues its upward trajectory—now ranking as the third-largest aviation market globally—events like IPTS serve as vital venues to foster innovation, forge strategic partnerships, and align infrastructure goals with passenger expectations.

With deep focus on human-centred design, AI-led operational intelligence, and sustainability, the Inter Passenger Terminal Show 2025 successfully set the agenda for the next phase of India’s aviation growth.
