With NetApp, the Company has brought down its overall storage requirement by approximately 40%, and reduced bandwidth requirements by 45%

Ipca, an integrated Indian pharmaceutical company manufacturing over 350 formulations and 80 APIs for various therapeutic segments has announced that it has chosen NetApp to secure some of its most critical data.

Ipca is one of the suppliers of APIs and their intermediates to customers across the globe, with 14 manufacturing facilities across multiple cities in India. Ipca uses software applications for quality control at each of its manufacturing locations to ensure the formulations and APIs qualify the guidelines set by the world’s leading drug regulatory authorities such as US-FDA, UK-MHRA, Europe-EDQM and Geneva-WHO, among others. Each of Ipca’s manufacturing units generates critical data, which require to be quickly accessed by multiple departments for multiple analyses. To enable this, Ipca required a powerful and flexible storage system for a heterogenous environment that had both SAN as well as NAS groups. Furthermore Ipca also required real time and high fidelity replication of data to a central location without compromising on security, availability or accessibility.

“Our challenge was to ensure data sovereignty over 14 physical locations to the central repository. Also all data transfer between the central repository and 14 locations was a very costly affair in terms of bandwidth. NetApp provided us with a very powerful replication mechanism which has lowered overall bandwidth consumption with the solutions’ deduplication and compression feature. We are extremely pleased with our partnership with NetApp and we are exploring setting up a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure at each of our locations with NetApp” said Ashok Nayak, General Manager – IT, Ipca.

Ipca chose NetApp’s FAS2500 Series for its benefit as unified architecture running Data ONTAP, NetApp’s data management platform that spans flash, disk and cloud resources. The unified FAS Series for SAN and NAS Gateways architecture have resolved Ipca’s storage requirement by having a single box for all types of workloads. NetApp’s SnapMirror was used to perform deduplication and compression on the data to drive down bandwidth usage.  With NetApp, the Company has brought down its overall storage requirement by approximately 40%, and reduced bandwidth requirements by 45%
