Matrix Geo Solutions has secured a contract from North Western Railway to deploy drone-based monitoring for the Luni–Samdari–Bhildi double-line railway project, marking a significant expansion of its role in large-scale infrastructure projects.
The mandate covers a 271.97 km rail corridor and will be executed over a period of 30 months, leveraging advanced UAV systems to enable continuous, high-precision monitoring of construction progress.
As railway infrastructure projects grow in complexity, traditional monitoring methods are proving insufficient. Matrix Geo’s approach introduces drone-led aerial videography and data capture, enabling real-time visibility into project execution and helping stakeholders track progress more accurately while identifying deviations early.
The deployment will involve monthly drone surveys using high-resolution cameras and sensors to capture 4K geo-tagged video data along the alignment. Each frame will be mapped with precise GPS metadata, allowing post-processing for change detection across key construction stages such as earthwork, rail installation, bridge construction, and related infrastructure development.
According to Amit Sharma, whole-time director at Matrix Geo Solutions, infrastructure projects of this scale require continuous oversight and precise data to ensure timely execution. He noted that UAV-led monitoring will enable faster decision-making and improved coordination across stakeholders while maintaining tighter control over timelines.
Beyond visibility, the initiative is expected to deliver measurable operational efficiencies. These include a 50% reduction in physical site visits by senior officials, faster reporting cycles, and improved situational awareness through real-time drone feeds—contributing to both safety and transparency in project execution.
The engagement highlights the growing role of geospatial intelligence and drone-as-a-service (DaaS) in infrastructure development, where data-driven insights are becoming critical for planning, monitoring, and execution.
With over 25 years of global experience across sectors such as railways, highways, mining, and energy, Matrix Geo Solutions is positioning itself as a key enabler of technology-led infrastructure management, supporting large-scale projects with accurate, timely, and actionable data.
