Meet Pixel, the first phone designed by Google: 11 things to know

Google has announced the launch of Pixel, the first-ever phone made by Google. Pixel ships with the newest Android operating system, Android 7.1 Nougat. Pixel Phones will get software and security updates as soon as they’re available, directly from Google.

Starting at INR 57,000, Pixel will be available for pre-order in India starting October 13th 2016 on www.flipkart.com and at over 1000 plus organized and multi-brand retail stores with leading retail partners including Reliance Digital, Croma and Vijay sales among others. India is among the first six countries where Pixel is being launched. Interest free EMI programs and attractive upgrade offers will be available. Pixel users will have access to a toll free phone support number along with 54 walk in service centres across 30+ cities in India.

1. One size doesn’t fit all

Pixel will be available in India in two sizes – 5” or 5.5” and two colors – Quite Black and Very Silver with memory configurations of 32GB and 128GB sizes.

2. The first phone with the Google Assistant built in

Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. Your Google Assistant is always ready to answer questions and help you get things done. Just say “Ok Google” or touch and hold the Home button to start. Try it out!

Then tap the mic and follow up with “remind me to leave for coffee with Maya at 7am”.

The Assistant can also offer help with what’s on-screen in any app. So if your friend texts you to meet up at a new restaurant, you can just say “navigate there”.

With a DxoMark Mobile score of 892, Pixel’s camera lets you take stunning photos in low light, bright light or any light. #Nofilter needed. Catch action shots as they happen with Smartburst, which takes a rapid-fire sequence of shots. Use Lens Blur to achieve shallow depth of field and bokeh effects, making your subject pop. And capture dramatic landscapes or make faces glow with new exposure controls.

Never lose a memory with free, unlimited online storage for your photos and videos taken on your Pixel, stored at full resolution in Google Photos.3 Once you’ve captured the moment, Google Photos keeps all your photos backed up, organised, and searchable, so you can find and share them fast.

5. One-tap video calling with Google Duo
The new, simple video calling app that brings you face-to-face with the people who matter most. Duo comes preloaded on your new Pixel and works across Android and iOS1, so you can video call with everyone you care about. And with the Knock Knock feature, you’ll see a preview of the caller before you pick up, so you never miss a moment. Make a video call:

a. Open the Google Duo app.
b. Tap to start a call.
c. Select a contact who’s using Duo (or invite someone to use it).

6. Unlock fast with Pixel Imprint

Pixel Imprint uses your unique fingerprint to unlock the phone fast. And it’s on the back of your phone for quick access to all your apps, texts and emails. Once you’ve unlocked, just swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to see all your notifications. You’ll need to turn on Moves for this to work:

a. Open Settings.
b. Tap “Moves”.
c. Make sure the slider next to “Swipe for notifications” is in the “on” position.

7. A battery that lasts all day, and charges fast

A combination of hardware and software keep your Pixel going all day long. When you need a quick charge, you can get up to 7 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes.

8. Customised Live Case

Personalise your Pixel with a case that’s right for you. Choose from a customised Live Case with a matching live wallpaper or Live Case designed with Google Earth and Google Trends. Or grab the Pixel Case by Google, built for protection and featuring a range of bright and bold colours.

9. Expert care from Google, no appointment needed

With your Pixel, a Google support expert is just a tap away. Need help? Just open the Settings app on your device and tap the Support tab. You can even share your screen with an expert who will walk you step-by-step to a solution.

10. Switching to your new Pixel is simple

Transfer your contacts, photos, videos, music, iMessages, SMS messages and more. Just connect your current phone to your new Pixel with the Quick Switch Adapter to transfer your content. Sign-in and select what you want to move over. That’s it!

11. No wait for software update

The update process too has been made easier. When a new update is available, it can download and install in the background, so users no longer have to wait for the phone to update.
