Microsoft has announced the opening of its Cyber Security Engagement Center (CSEC) in Gurgaon, India. The CSEC aims to drive public-private partnerships to fight cybercrime, strengthen the cooperation with Indian businesses, government and academic organizations on cybersecurity, and increase its contribution towards securing Indian computer and internet users from cybercrime threats. It brings together Microsoft’s Digital Crime Unit experts comprising attorneys, investigators and security response experts from across the company. The Gurgaon center is one of the seven centers globally and will serve as a dedicated hub for Microsoft in India.

As part of Microsoft Consultancy Services (MCS), a dedicated India-based response team will also offer cyber monitoring, use machine learning based detection technology and ensure rapid response and resolution to cyber threats to enterprise customers in the country.

Announcing CSEC, Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman, Microsoft India, said, “India stands at an exciting threshold today as data becomes a key driver of growth across every sector and industry and Cloud based computing becomes more prevalent. Cybersecurity is crucial for Digital India. A data driven economy can flourish only when governments, businesses and individuals have access to hyper scale and hyper flexible cloud computing with the confidence that their data is secure. Our Cyber Security Engagement Center in Gurgaon underlines our relentless commitment to security and partnering India in its digital transformation.”

Microsoft’s advisory security services to enterprise customers will include support to architect a secure infrastructure as well build global best practices on preventive measures for a safer internet ecosystem. The CSEC will leverage Microsoft’s DCU Cyber Threat Intelligence Program that monitors and analyze malware infections; provide malware threat assessment and provide actionable information and intelligence for select IP infrastructures shared by its customers on a non-commercial basis.

Using a proprietary algorithm, Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics works round the clock, constantly learning from the behavior of organizational entities (users, devices, and resources) and helps customers adapt to the changing nature of cybersecurity attacks. Additionally, Microsoft’s Advanced Threat Protection in Exchange Online Protection helps prevent malware attacks in an email environment,
strengthening security and protection against the growing threat of identity frauds and business email frauds.

Microsoft’s CSEC will combine the company’s technical proficiency as well as cutting-edge tools and technology with cross-industry expertise to effectively reduce digital risks. It will work with the National Cybersecurity Coordinator as well as the CERT-India and share information to help reduce malware and digital risk in the country, enabling a safe digital India.

Microsoft’s approach to cybersecurity in today’s cloud-centric world rests on three core functional areas: protect, detect and respond. To support a comprehensive, cross company approach to security, Microsoft invests more than a billion dollars in security research and development, every year. It is the first company in the industry to win a certification ISO/IEC 27018 that validates the highest levels of data security and privacy. Microsoft provides unique, tailored solutions to help its customers monitor, analyze and prioritize threats within their environments. In addition, it offers industry-leading tactical and strategic response capabilities backed with unique access to deep product expertise.
