0 18

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global digital technologies firm has introduced nine Indian languages for smartphone and tablet users. The Indian languages will be supported on Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S4 and Tab 3.

The languages will include Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati. Company plans to enhance the availability of regional language content to its more affordable Smart phone range starting with Galaxy Star within this month. The number of languages being offered too will be increased.

Especially created for the India market, this unique initiative will enable consumers to access applications from the Samsung Application Store in their favourite language in various categories ranging from entertainment, games, utility, lifestyle, devotional and business.

Popular applications like Bharat Matrimony, Ganesh speak, India property, Times of India, BSE and Mydala amongst hundreds of other applications will soon be available in vernacular language for users. Customers can right away get experience in their own language by using Chaton, Facebook, Gmail and Newshunt on select Samsung devices.

Announcing this launch, Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT, Samsung India stated, “Availability of content combined with easy access is the key driver for usage of any language. We clearly sense a need and a demand amongst users to communicate in local languages using their mobile devices. That is the reason, as an industry leader, we are taking the lead by offering users the ease of accessing regional language content in their preferred language.”

“We will not only work with content providers towards making more regional language content available, but we will develop the eco system by working with app developers that more Indian consumers can enjoy their mobile experience in their own language. This will serve to revolutionize the consumers’ experience with their Smart devices and act as a trigger to fuel the next phase of growth in Smartphones and tablets,” added Taneja.

“At Samsung, we will increase the number of devices that offer regional language content and experience from next month onwards as well as enhance the bouquet of languages for our consumers,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, stated Kiran Karnik, “Access to regional language content will not only give a strong fillip to data consumption on the mobile platform, but will empower millions of Indians who are not fluent in English.

“I think the industry as a whole needs to take this initiative forward with the developers creating good quality content, service providers giving attractive packages to boost data consumption and manufacturers improving the overall mobile experience. I see Indian mobile telephony on the threshold of a new wave, driven by not only data consumption in English but in regional languages as well,” added Karnik.

“We are excited to be part of Samsung’s initiative on development and proliferation of Indian Language based Applications on mobiles for the Indian masses. We have launched the Reverie PhoneBook Application on Samsung Smart Phones, which allows users for the first time, to use phonebook in the language of their choice,” said Arvind Pani, Co-Founder & CEO of Reverie Language Technologies.

“Currently the languages supported on the Reverie PhoneBook are Hindi, Gujarati, Gurumukhi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and English. The Reverie PhoneBook Application is available on Samsung App Store free of cost till Dec 31, 2013,“ added Pani.

“We are very excited that Facebook for Android and Facebook Messenger on Samsung smartphones will now support 9 Indian languages. This is an excellent opportunity to help bring millions of Indians online via Facebook through these collaborative efforts.” said Kevin D’souza, Country Growth Manager, Facebook India.
