Trontek Electronics is expanding into battery energy storage systems (BESS), targeting 12 GWh of annual manufacturing capacity by 2028 as it seeks to strengthen its presence in India’s energy storage market.

The company’s Made-in-India portfolio covers residential, commercial and industrial (C&I), industrial campus and utility-scale applications. The expansion builds on Trontek’s more than two decades of experience in battery technology, electric mobility, charging and energy solutions.

The move comes as battery storage gains importance in supporting renewable energy integration, electricity management and grid flexibility. Trontek’s solutions are designed to address requirements ranging from household energy management to large-scale industrial and utility infrastructure.

Samrath S. Kochar, Founder and CEO, Trontek, said energy storage would play an increasingly important role as mobility, homes, industries and power grids become more interconnected. He added that the company aims to build on its battery technology expertise to develop energy storage capabilities in India and support the country’s ambitions in the sector.

BESS portfolio spans multiple applications

Trontek’s portfolio includes systems ranging from 215 kWh to 5 MWh, catering to different energy storage requirements.

  • Residential and distributed energy: Modular systems designed to improve renewable energy utilisation, energy management and power resilience.
  • Commercial and industrial: 215 kWh-class systems for hotels, offices and small and medium-sized manufacturing facilities, supporting demand management and power reliability.
  • Industrial and campus facilities: 418 kWh-class systems intended for factories, warehouses, hospitals and industrial campuses.
  • Utility and grid-scale applications: Systems of up to 5 MWh for utilities, industrial parks and large solar-plus-storage projects, supporting renewable integration and grid flexibility.

The company said it is engaging with customers across these segments as it builds its presence in the domestic energy storage market.

Focus on domestic manufacturing

Local engineering and manufacturing are central to Trontek’s expansion strategy. The company is building capabilities in battery systems, testing, system integration, technology development, and service to meet India’s varied operating conditions and application requirements.

The planned capacity expansion also signals Trontek’s intention to broaden its business beyond battery and mobility solutions, with energy storage emerging as a key growth area.

As demand for renewable energy and electrification grows, Trontek aims to use its manufacturing and technology capabilities to serve a wider range of energy storage applications, from distributed systems to large-scale infrastructure.
