Zoom has announced a series of AI-powered product updates spanning workplace collaboration, customer experience, enterprise security and developer tools, with a new Unified Context Layer at the centre of its strategy to connect business conversations with subsequent actions.
Announced at Zoomtopia, the company’s annual customer conference, the Unified Context Layer is designed to bring together information from meetings, calls, chats, contact centre interactions, documents and connected third-party applications. The aim is to give employees and AI agents access to relevant business context without requiring teams to manually reconstruct discussions, decisions and action items across multiple systems.
The platform will combine real-time conversational information with company knowledge and data from enterprise applications. Zoom said the layer would also make this context available beyond its own interface through application programming interfaces (APIs) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations.
“AI models are only as powerful as their understanding of your business, and that context makes all the difference,” said Eric Yuan, founder and CEO of Zoom. “Fragmented product experiences isolate conversations, stall decisions, and drag businesses down. Today, with the Unified Context Layer, we’re laying the groundwork for a system of action designed to turn conversations into completed work.”
The announcement reflects Zoom’s broader effort to extend its AI capabilities beyond meeting transcription and summarisation towards coordinating tasks and workflows across enterprise applications.
AI agents move into everyday workflows
Several of the announcements build on the Unified Context Layer, including enhancements to My Notes and ZoomMate, Zoom’s AI-powered tools for capturing conversations and supporting task completion.
My Notes is being extended to in-person meetings through a standalone mobile application and hardware integrations. Planned capabilities include personalised transcripts and summaries for people who miss meetings, and the ability to link screenshots of shared slides or charts to the relevant moments in a transcript.
My Notes Workflows will allow meeting summaries to trigger follow-up activities in applications such as Zoom Chat and Salesforce. Users will also be able to describe desired automations in natural language rather than build workflows manually.
ZoomMate’s Agent Teams, which are available now, are designed to deploy specialised AI agents in parallel on different parts of a task. The company is also expanding agentic search across Zoom Meetings, Phone and Chat, alongside more than 40 third-party applications, including ServiceNow, Workday, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
The company is extending access to these capabilities through MCP and APIs, enabling developers and AI agents to retrieve Zoom context and initiate supported actions from other environments. Zoom has expanded its integrations with AI assistants, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, alongside existing integrations with Anthropic Claude, OpenAI Codex and Meta Muse. Support for Google Gemini is planned.
Customer experience gains shared context
Zoom is also extending the Unified Context Layer to its customer experience portfolio, connecting customer histories across virtual agents, contact centres and phone interactions.
The new Customer Profiles capability will combine CRM data, engagement histories and linked cases into a consolidated view accessible through Zoom Contact Center and Zoom Phone. The company is also extending its Zoom Virtual Agent to kiosks in physical environments such as retail outlets, healthcare facilities and service centres.
The kiosk-based virtual agent is designed to handle customer requests using the shared context layer and escalate unresolved queries to employees or contact centre teams. Zoom is also introducing Agent Architect, which can use call transcripts to identify customer intents and generate virtual-agent conversation flows.
Other CX announcements include enhancements to workflow orchestration, quality management, workforce management and CX Insights. A new Source Hub will allow contact centre agents to view and update records in connected third-party systems without switching applications, with initial Salesforce support planned for early 2027.
“Every interaction a customer has with a business, whether it’s a call, chat, kiosk visit, or conversation with a virtual agent, generates context that should make the next one smarter,” said Chris Morrissey, general manager of Zoom CX.
The company cited U.S. Oral Surgery Management as an example of its CX platform in use. The organisation uses Zoom Contact Center and Zoom Phone to support centralised scheduling across more than 130 practices. Based on its internal analysis, it projects savings of $2.7 million over five years and expects to reduce costs by 50% by the end of 2026.
New controls target enterprise AI governance
As AI agents gain access to meeting content, customer information and enterprise systems, Zoom is introducing additional controls aimed at improving administrative visibility and data protection.
Centralised AI Management, expected in December 2026, will provide administrators with greater visibility into AI agents, account-level policies and AI activity. Custom AI guardrails, planned for the first quarter of 2027, will allow organisations to define restrictions on AI-generated outputs, including requirements for human review of certain client-facing content.
Zoom is also integrating Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels with Zoom Meetings and Whiteboard to help organisations maintain consistent data-classification policies across systems. A deepfake risk detection capability, expected in December 2026, is designed to analyse audio and video signals in real time and flag potentially manipulated media.
“AI agents are becoming essential collaborators in how work gets done, but organizations need the same level of control and visibility over AI that they have over any other business-critical system,” said Russell Dicker, chief product officer at Zoom.
The company also plans to introduce Compliance Manager for My Notes and Zoom Canvas, enabling AI-generated summaries, notes and documents to be archived to support specific retention requirements. The capability is expected in January 2027.
Developer platform opens up more AI capabilities
Zoom is expanding its developer platform with 15 additional AI services, including APIs for conversational voice, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, real-time interpretation and speech summarisation. A new Decisions API will allow applications to evaluate text, images and other inputs against predefined criteria and return structured results for tasks such as classifying information or routing customer requests.
The new AI Services APIs are available to developers. Zoom has also introduced Platform Studio, a developer portal bringing together its AI Services, Video SDK and Co-Browse SDK.
The expanded MCP support is intended to let developers connect Zoom capabilities to external AI tools without requiring users to work directly inside Zoom. Additional integrations are planned across Zoom Phone, Scheduler, Mail, Calendar and Marketplace Build.
“Businesses aren’t going to rely on a single AI assistant or model for everything they do,” said Brendan Ittelson, chief ecosystem officer at Zoom. “We believe the most valuable platforms will be the ones that work across that ecosystem, not just within their own applications.”
Collaboration tools receive updates
Alongside the AI platform and developer announcements, Zoom introduced updates across Zoom Workplace, including meetings, chat, phone and hybrid workspaces.
New meeting capabilities include Voice Translator, which can broadcast translated audio to participants, and Touch up my voice, which uses on-device AI to smooth accents in real time. Pose Correction is designed to adjust a participant’s on-screen appearance when they glance away from the camera, while Live Meeting Assist will provide real-time suggestions to improve meeting engagement and clarity.
The company is also updating Zoom Chat to bring AI agents into conversations and consolidate replies, mentions and reactions into more accessible views. For hybrid workplaces, planned features include Bring Your Own Zoom for shared meeting rooms, improved signage management and cross-platform meeting connectivity with Microsoft Teams.
Availability varies across the announcements, with some features already available and others scheduled for release from late 2026 through the first quarter of 2027.
The combined announcements position the Unified Context Layer as the common foundation linking Zoom’s collaboration, customer experience and developer offerings. The extent to which these capabilities translate into measurable enterprise productivity gains will depend on their implementation, integration with existing systems and organisations’ ability to govern how AI agents access data and carry out tasks.
