0 25

Dell has recently conducted an India CIO Enterprise Tablet Survey for 2013, which reveals that IT departments are willing to adapt fresher approaches to meet their technology requirements.

The 2013 survey was conducted with enterprise IT leaders, ranging from CIOs and CTOs to CTOs to IT Directors. The mission of this survey, conducted across large enterprise companies in India, was to the perspective that enterprise IT decision makers have about increasing usage of mobile devices and their impact on the corporate environment. The responses from more than 300 organizations show that a large group view BYOD incorporation in a favorable light, and will accordingly prioritize their mobile investments in 2013.

Shishir Singh, Director, Product Marketing, Dell India said, “How people are using mobility devices and what they expect from these devices is  changing each day. Tablets today allow customers to create and consume content in new and exciting ways which makes technology more accessible and intuitive. Dell strives towards keeping pace with the new trends and to become the perfect technology partner to its users. The Latitude 10 tablet offers all the features wanted by an end user with the simplicity and ease of manageability of a business device. We are already seeing interest from customers who want to work with us to provide pre-installed apps on the Latitude 10 to increase workforce efficiency.

Venu Reddy, Research Director, IDC India says, “The concept of BYOD is steadily being accepted in the India market. We’re finally reaching a point where IT officially recognizes use of a personal device in business. Enterprises are considering adopting BYOD to mobilize their workforce, to increase employee satisfaction, to improve their productivity & efficiency, and also to help reduce costs. But they’re doing so with cautious optimism as they strive to find real answers to trends concerning security, compliance and providing resources to support products from different manufacturers.”

“The Enterprise Tablet Survey 2013 depicts a positive uptrend in the adoption of Windows 8 in enterprises when it comes to using mobile devices. With the changing user preferences and demands for a more converged IT infrastructure which allows seamless integration of all end user devices, there was a need for an OS which serves the various security concerns of the enterprises while maximizing the end user productivity. Windows 8 not only comes with greater security from malware and viruses, but lets you expand your storage without needing to add new drive letters or moving applications and data across drives. The new OS allows faster data encryption and different virtualization options that let you create multiple versions of the system on the same device. These features make the OS the perfect partner for today’s enterprises which demand security and productivity at their fingertips.”

Some of the key findings from the survey are listed below:

  • 50% of participants are considering a BYOD implementation within 6 months.
  • 80% of organizations are considering a BYOD implementation in the next one year.
  • Usage of web based apps will gain importance for all types of workers in 2013.
  • Windows 8 gains strength as top enterprise platforms with 52% of the participants opting Windows 8 as their preferred choice of platform for tablet devices while, 27% selected Android.
  • 83% of respondents reveal that they would like a first-hand experience before they make a purchase. A vendor would have to provide a tablet with some sample pre-loaded apps to explore the capabilities while, 61% of respondents cited they would like a vendor to help port their current app onto a tablet device running Windows 8.
  • With 27% mobile workforce and 26% senior executives showing interest in using tablets to provide additional value in the organization, they are clearly the driving force behind organizations considering a BYOD implementation
  • The usage model of tablet devices change with the nature of the job: task workers, knowledge workers and consultants’ usage of mobile devices is far greater for data creation than for data consumption whereas, senior board level employees’ usage of the mobile device is far greater for data consumption than for data creation.
