Aiming to be a key stakeholder in the Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, Siemens is pushing ahead with digitalisation drive to help its Indian customers keep a competitive edge in the global market.

“If the Make in India campaign has to be successful, there is a need to empower domestic players to become more efficient in terms of maximum utilisation of their manufacturing capacities.

“This can be achieved through digitalisation, which is opening new opportunities to to make products and solutions smarter,” Siemens India Managing Director and Chief Executive Sunil Mathur told PTI on the sidelines of the Hannover Fair here.

The world’s largest industrial engineering fair was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with German chancellor Angela Merkel, last week.

India was the partner country at the fair. He said the Modi government needs to up spending in crucial sectors like infrastructure, the Railways, energy and defence, among others, to crank up the unutilised manufacturing capacities, which will further ensure job creation.

And this is the time when the role of digitalisation will be very crucial as it will help increase productivity, efficiency and flexibility.

Siemens recognised this potential at an early stage and has developed perfectly matched solutions covering all steps of the value chain.

Right from product designing to execution to services, Siemens can provide its expertise through the digital platform,” Mathur said.

He said Siemens digital solutions will enable its customers achieve higher productivity and accelerated time-to-market in design and engineering, new levels of flexibility and resilience in production and operations and predictive and efficient services and maintenance.

Siemens India operates 23 factories producing high-tech equipment and products to cater not only to the domestic but the global market.

“The three core platforms of electrification, automation and digitalisation will help the company achieve good growth in future,” Mathur concluded.
