HCLTech launches AI-powered operations offering for mainframe environments

0 0

HCLTech has launched an AI-powered operations offering for mainframe environments, combining automation and AI-driven monitoring to help enterprises manage mission-critical workloads and improve operational efficiency.

Announced on November 2, 2026, the offering brings together specialised mainframe skill agents and conversational AI assistants to support system administration, observability, optimisation and operational workflows. The capabilities are designed to help enterprises identify issues, improve response times and move towards more proactive management of mainframe systems.

The offering will operate under human oversight, with HCLTech’s Mainframe Centre of Excellence providing domain expertise and support for implementation.

AI agents target mainframe operations

The new offering uses AI-enabled automation and operational intelligence to support a range of mainframe management tasks. These include monitoring system performance, identifying operational issues and optimising workflows.

The use of specialised AI agents and conversational assistants is intended to reduce the manual effort involved in managing complex mainframe environments. By enabling faster identification and resolution of issues, the offering aims to help enterprises improve system availability and operational efficiency.

HCLTech said the capabilities would also support more proactive operations, allowing organisations to identify potential issues before they affect business-critical workloads.

Mainframe modernisation remains an enterprise priority

Mainframes continue to support critical workloads across industries, including banking, financial services and insurance. However, enterprises operating these systems face challenges related to skills availability, operational complexity and the need to improve efficiency without compromising reliability.

HCLTech’s offering seeks to address these challenges by combining its mainframe expertise with AI-driven operational capabilities.

Rampal Singh, senior vice-president and global business head of Hybrid Cloud at HCLTech, said enterprises were under increasing pressure to modernise mainframe operations while maintaining reliability and control.

He said the offering combines the company’s mainframe expertise with AI capabilities to help clients simplify operations, reduce risk and derive greater value from their mainframe investments.

Human oversight and governance remain central

HCLTech said the offering is designed to support AI-driven operations while preserving the security, resilience and governance requirements of mainframe environments.

Raghu Kidambi, corporate vice-president and head of AI Ecosystems at HCLTech, said the company was embedding intelligent agents and operational intelligence into mainframe environments to help enterprises move from reactive management to proactive operations.

The company’s Mainframe Centre of Excellence will support the offering through domain expertise, industry practices and continued development of AI capabilities.

The launch comes as enterprises increasingly explore the use of AI agents to automate IT operations. However, the adoption of autonomous capabilities in mission-critical environments will depend on how effectively organisations manage operational risks, maintain human oversight and ensure that AI-driven actions do not compromise system reliability.
